Here’s Google’s business model generalised. It’s just a pay per performance business model, though it’s called pay per click in the context of Google.

Google’s Model:
*Advertiser* >> pays >> *Google* >> pays >> *Paid Per Performance Web Site*

Google’s Model Generalised:
*Advertiser* >> pays >> *Web Site* >> pays >> *Paid Per Performance Staff*

In Google’s model, web sites create content for Google and get paid based on their performance. In the generalised model, the “staff” create content for the web site and get paid based on their performance.

An interesting bend on the generalised model is when the public/readers are creating the content for the site. I’ve heard the use of consumers acting as producers termed “prosumers”.

This type of model is sometimes seen, but not as much as I would have thought.
