This is not new news, but it's interesting...
I came across "this information":http://awis.blogspot.com/2005/07/top-500-sites-have-all-luck.html when it was originally posted in July 2005. In this post "Alexa":http://alexa.com (an Internet search engine owned by Amazon) discusses the distribution of traffic across the Internet. Here's a summary of the stuff I think is interesting:
* It turns out that the top 500 sites have 45% of the Internet traffic passing through their sites.
* The top 100,000 sites receive 75% of traffic.
* Alexa have seen 18 million sites, but there are actually 60,993,797 currently active domains according to "Whois Source":http://www.whois.sc/internet-statistics/ as at 12 Dec 2005.
