I was listening to a pod cast today from “ITConversations”:http://www.itconversations.com/index.html with Dr Robert Trivers. Dr Trivers discussed self deception and it’s consequences. It was an incredibly fascinating talk and I encourage you to “listen to him talk.”:http://www.itconversations.com/shows/detail787.html
A couple of tasters:
* There are mice that roll themselves in to balls in order to mimic poo. The idea being that their predators wont then eat them.
* A group of students were asked to rank their intelligence in terms of their peers. 80% of them said they were above average.
It’s a fascinating talk that I’ll have to listen to again. The only other time I’ve come across so much rich content was when I read Nassim Taleb’s “Fooled By Randomness.”:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0812975219/sr=1-1/qid=1138802744/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6704096-3764858?%5Fencoding=UTF8 Taleb can be heard at the end of Trivers’ talk, and has his own talk “here”:http://www.itconversations.com/shows/detail786.html - but I haven’t listened to Taleb’s talk yet.
